Elizabeth Hesp Fine Art
Mindful photography through the lens.
Introduction
A mindful focus on nature, culture and community.
Elizabeth Hesp Fine Art welcomes you into a visual space highlighting mindful conversations on nature, culture and community as seen and experienced through my lens in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. As you view the images on this site, you complete my photographic process, and I am grateful for your presence and attention.
Mindful photography is a transformative process which invites you to pause and hold space and time for your subject without judgement or attachment. The experience raises your level of awareness about the image you are creating each time you press the shutter button.
Life is chaotic and full of interruptions and noise. Practicing mindful photography can focus your attention in the moment, leaving you with a feeling of calm and tranquility. It is a healing and immersive experience that anchors your attention and frees your imagination and in the process expands your perspective about your environment in relation to self and community.
About
Elizabeth is a professional visual artist, a fine art photographer, a former arts entrepreneur, and a certified ICF coach and cultural intelligence facilitator and consultant but above all she is a mindful observer and listener who has been practicing mindful photography for over 25 years.
She immigrated from Kolkata, India to Kingston, Canada in 1996 and calls the Limestone City her home. Identifying her city’s sense of place and sense of community through her mindful lens is important to her.
A recipient of Ontario Arts Council Grants for her solo exhibitions, she has engaged her audience, both adults and students alike, through her in-person exhibition talks and tours. She has been a Board Director for the Kingston Arts Council during the pandemic and volunteered in an arts advisory role for the City of Kingston’s initiatives for professional development for artists. She believes in collaboration and the interconnectedness of cultures, identities, and voices.
Elizabeth was the first multicultural female arts entrepreneur in Kingston to provide her Art for Business Service, through Elizabeth Hesp Fine Art from 2015 to 2021. She has worked directly with real estate developers and interior designers providing her original photography as customized interior art to complete design projects and brand both commercial and residential spaces. In 2018 she pivoted to her present profession and started her second business Elizabeth Hesp Coaching and Consulting in 2020. The following year, in 2021, she closed her Art for Business service, but you can read the testimonials here.

The self-published books showcase my perspectives on nature, culture and community. The fine art photography books are a condensed experience of my visual storytelling as communicated through past exhibitions funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
You are invited to read about the featured self-publications and learn when you can pre-order them. They are an excellent snapshot of the Limestone City by the lake and a thoughtful gift to family and friends.

Exhibitions
As a professional visual artist and fine art photographer I have enjoyed engaging my audience since 2012 with my visual storytelling related to our natural environment, culture and community.
Giving my solo exhibition tours and talks to community members and school students and sharing my photographic journey with my audience enabled conversations and learning for all involved.
Creating engagement through my exhibitions helped me to learn about my community and grow both personally and professionally.
Over the years I have been part of both group and solo exhibitions in Kingston.
Here is the list of my solo exhibitions from 2012 till date:
2012 – A Luminous Tribute
2013 – Sky Water Sails
2014 – Water, A Reflected Perspective
2018 – Visual Rhythms, Architecture Dance Music
The image here is of my 2018 solo exhibition hosted at the Isabel Bader Centre of the Performing Arts Centre’s, Arts and Media Lab at Queen’s University.
