About

Inspired by the rhythm of light, shadow, form, line and space…the stillness and the motion…this luminous moment.

My artistic sensibility started in the East, in Kolkata, India with a paintbrush. It began with the colors and visual rhythms of tropical India, it’s dramatic monsoons and vast cultural consciousness influencing my imagination. In school I learnt from a visual arts Professor how to notice light, use colours and define form and perspective. This learning was nurtured at home. Through painting I learnt a new language of communication and expression.

This sensitivity to my environment, years later morphed into a minimalist perspective once I discovered how to look through the viewfinder and paint with a camera. My daily mindfulness meditation practice has helped to improve my mindful approach to photography.

A self-taught photographer, my unique photographic style is a mindful fusion of the cultures of both the East and the West.  It is based on my memories and journeys, both from within and from my travels around the world.

I paint with my camera and ambient light to convey a feeling more so then to convey an image. Your emotional connection to my visual perspectives is the art I try to create each time I press the shutter button.

My large scale installations hang in homes, condominiums and professional offices in Kingston and Toronto.

At present I pursue the art with reverence while managing the limitations of not being able to carry my gear for as long as I did before. Thus time spent pursuing the photographic process has become an even more precious engagement for me.

About Mindful Photography

Mindful photography is about slowing down to capture a meaningful impression of your subject.

As you immerse yourself in this process of deliberate stillness a new awareness emerges shifting your perspective to new possibilities of seeing. You start building a visual dialogue with your subject that goes beyond the photographic frame.

The rhythm of light, shadow, form, line, texture, luminosity and colour all merge into one or more tangible perspectives. You gain the insight that for every image composed, there are an infinite number of images of your subject not photographed. Between the image seen and the images unseen of your subject there is an ocean of possibilities.

This awareness makes you respect the expansiveness of your subject and your own limitations as a photographer. The experience can be of oneness and inspire reverence, awe, and humility while simultaneously creating a sense of belonging as you own the moment and press the shutter button.

Over the years, engaging with mindfulness through my lens, I have experienced personal growth. As I photographed the many views of Lake Ontario, or local landmark architecture or the passing of seasons in my garden I learnt the value of curiosity and patience. The best images are made with a feeling, in a fleeting moment of resonance with your subject. That process, dear friends is the art of mindful photography.

Art Entrepreneurship

A merging of creativity, value and innovative approach to branding spaces with fine art photography.

My artistic vision and entrepreneurial spirit came together to open Lens Glow Creations in 2012 January. In 2015 I made a big leap to establish my one of a kind custom interior art professional services, through Elizabeth Hesp Fine Art, here in Kingston Ontario. After six years of successful commercial and residential space branding with my original photography installations and Art for Business services it was time to transition to a new career and second business.

My arts entrepreneurship journey came to a close in 2021, but not before I learned the intricacies of sole proprietorship and how to run a small business in a competitive industry.

In 2020 after two years of training I became an ICF certified coach (ACC) and launched Elizabeth Hesp Coaching and Consulting in Kingston. I enjoy working with the coaching process which mirrors the artistic process in more ways than one, to help guide my clients to their goals.

These days I divide my time between my professional coaching practice and the pursuit of mindful photography when time, intention and inspiration allows the process to unfold.
