Finding Rhythm in the City
The project culminated in an exhibition in June 2018 at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts Centre’s, Arts and Media Lab. The exhibition was funded in part by the Ontario Arts Council exhibition assistance grant.
The images were made in collaboration with a classical Bharatanatyam dancer, a ballerina and a violinist, at five different locations in Kingston.
The visual storytelling highlights the rhythm of our interconnectedness across cultures as mirrored by the performance of the two dancers and the musician against the backdrop of downtown Kingston’s and Queen’s University architecture. My commentary alongside the images gives you a deeper insight into the why and how of the project while inviting your reflections about belonging.
The wide angle, black and white images are printed on crisp white lustre paper. The pages are held between a durable hard cover wrapped in a smooth dust jacket. The image, Harmony – Space Time Rhythm, spans the front cover, with review blurbs on the back cover.
In essence the book is a memorable impression and takeaway of Kingston. It is an ideal gift for graduations, professional milestones, anniversaries, retirement, keynote speakers and for libraries.

The copies of the first limited edition run of this book were sold out at Novel Idea Bookstore in downtown Kingston.

A channel of communication for man, waterways have helped us to connect with other communities and different civilization’s over the ages and sustained many a nation’s growth in trade and empire expansion. Some of the images tell the story of a bygone era of tall ships plying the waters of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waterways.
